Beethoven zum Beispiel

Edwin Wolfram Dahl (1928- )

Daß er taub war
zuletzt
Daß er heute
verjazzt ist
verrockt ist
Leonore drei
auf Stimulans
Daß Recht vor Gnade
ihn heute noch spielt
und Platten und Millionen
um Ohren um untaube schlägt
Marcia funebre
wenn trauert das Volk
Und singt ihn noch immer
(Nicht diese Töne)

Daß er geboren wurde
bestimmt
in Deutschland zu Bonn
Wo sie ihn abspulen
vor aller Welt
abbrennen bei Eroica
Und kennen keine Parteien mehr
Daß er taub war
zuletzt
und wieder müßte ertauben
käme er heute
zur Welt

Black Boys Play the Classics

Toi Derricotte (1941- )

The most popular "act" in
Penn Station
is the three black kids in ratty
sneakers & T-shirts playing
two violins and a cello-Brahms.
White men in business suits
have already dug into their pockets
as they pass and they toss in
a dollar or two without stopping.
Brown men in work-soiled khakis
stand with their mouths open,
arms crossed on their bellies
as if they themselves have always
wanted to attempt those bars.
One white boy, three, sits
cross-legged in front of his
idols-in ecstasy-
their slick, dark faces,
their thin, wiry arms,
who must begin to look
like angels!
Why does this trembling
pull us?
A: Beneath the surface we are one.
B: Amazing! I did not think that they could speak this tongue.

A la voix de Kathleen Ferrier

Yves Bonnefoy (1923 -)

Konzert

Klaus Gordziel

Die Musik ausgehaucht
die letzten Noten
bäumen sich auf
und fallen
erschöpft zu Boden.
Der Hauch des davoneilenden
Publikums wirbelt sie
durcheinander
und die Musik wird atonal.
Der Beifall will sich
im Raum verstecken
und sucht nach Konservierung.
Seelentropfen hängen
in den Sitzen.
Die Instrumente verpackt
der Applaus gelebt
die Musiker gegangen.
Was bleibt?
Was bleibt ist Harmonie
der Gleichklang
unsere Herzen.

A Minuet of Mozart's

Sara Teasdale (1884 - 1933)

Across the dimly lighted room
The violin drew wefts of sound,
Airily they wove and wound
And glimmered gold against the gloom.

I watched the music turn to light,
But at the pausing of the bow,
The web was broken and the glow
Was drowned within the wave of night.

Das Konzert

Alfred Lichtenstein (1889-1914)

Die nackten Stühle horchen sonderbar
Beängstigend und still, als gäbe es Gefahr.
Nur manche sind mit einem Mensch bedeckt.

Ein grünes Fräulein sieht oft in ein Buch.
Und einer findet bald ein Taschentuch.
Und Stiefel sind ganz gräßlich angedreckt.

Aus offnem Munde tönt ein alter Mann.
Ein Jüngling blickt ein junges Mädchen an.
Ein Knabe spielt an seinem Hosenknopf.

Auf einem Podium schaukelt sich behend
Ein Leib bei einem ernsten Instrument.
Auf einem Kragen liegt ein blanker Kopf.

Kreischt. Und zerreiß.

On Hearing a Symphony of Beethoven

Edna St. Vincent Millay (1892-1950)

Sweet sounds, oh, beautiful music, do not cease!
Reject me not into the world again.
With you alone is excellence and peace,
Mankind made plausible, his purpose plain.
Enchanted in your air benign and shrewd,
With limbs a-sprawl and empty faces pale,
The spiteful and the stingy and the rude
Sleep like the scullions in the fairy-tale.
This moment is the best the world can give:
The tranquil blossom on the tortured stem.
Reject me not, sweet sounds; oh, let me live,
Till Doom espy my towers and scatter them,
A city spell-bound under the aging sun.
Music my rampart, and my only one.

Moderne Sinfonie

Heinz Erhardt (1909-1979)

Pauker pauken, Harfe harft - - -
alle Noten dieses Werkes
werden schonungslos entlarvt . . .
Droben schwitzet die Kapelle,
auch der Dirigent hat's satt ! -
Morgen können wir dann lesen,
ob es uns gefallen hat . . . !

The Pupil

Donald Justice (1925 - )

Picture me, the shy pupil at the door,
One small, tight fist clutching the dread Czerny.
Back then time was still harmony, not money,
And I could spend a whole week practicing for
That moment on the threshold.
Then to take courage,
And enter, and pass among mysterious scents,
And sit quite straight, and with a frail confidence
Assault the keyboard with a childish flourish!

Only to lose my place, or forget the key,
And almost doubt the very metronome
(Outside, the traffic, the laborers going home),
And still to bear on across Chopin or Brahms,
Stupid and wild with love equally for the storms
Of C# minor and the calms of C.

Bei seinem letzten Konzert

Alfred Brendel (1931- )

Bei seinem letzten Konzert
sah ich meinen Kollegen Fischkemper
über dem Klavier levitieren
ich traute meinen Augen nicht
doch tatsächlich da schwebte er
während der Flügel
den Es-Dur-Triller der Sonate Opus III
selbsttätig weiterspielte
ihn um Minuten verlängernd
damit auch der größte Zweifler
Gelegenheit hätte zu registrieren
daß hier ein mystisches Erlebnis
wahrnehmbar von allen
sich ereignete
